James M. Wilson is a transactional lawyer who focuses his practice on real estate and business acquisitions, dispositions, finance, and development. He also regularly handles drafting and negotiating general commercial contracts, including license agreements and contracts for the sale of goods or services. Prior to returning to Charleston, Mr. Wilson practiced law in Washington D.C. at Vinson & Elkins L.L.P., where he focused on project finance and development and mergers and acquisitions.

Mr. Wilson has advised clients in zoning matters, the development and establishment of condominium and “dockominium” regimes, commercial leases, and residential subdivisions. His finance experience includes representing both lenders and borrowers in complex secured loans involving leasehold mortgages and securitized loans. Mr. Wilson currently serves as the Vice-Chair of the Mortgage Lending Committee of the American Bar Association Section of Real Property Trust & Estate Law 

Representative Matters:

•	Served as primary counsel for investors acquiring $70 million portfolio of hotels
•	Assisted developers in acquiring land for residential subdivision, obtaining zoning variances, and preparation of covenants and restrictions
•	Represented clients in the acquisition and re-development of multiple marinas and related primary and mezzanine loan facilities
•	Represented manufacturing company in the spin off of a wholly owned subsidiary to minority shareholders
•	Assisted lender in $60 million financing of mixed use development
•	Represented management in the acquisition of contracting business from publicly held parent company
•	Drafted and negotiated technology licensing and joint development agreement on behalf of health care equipment manufacturer
•	Represented developers in negotiating and approval of development agreements with various governmental authorities
•	Assisted developer in implementing tax increment financing for infrastructure projects in major new mixed use development
