Kristen McDermott Woodrum is an associate of the firm who focuses her practice in the areas of Real Estate, Business and Health Care transactions. Ms. Woodrum concentrates her Real Estate practice on the acquisition, development and disposition of real property and on commercial leasing, representing both landlords and tenants in retail, office, ground and warehouse leasing transactions. As a member of the Business and Banking practice group, Ms. Woodrum assists clients with the formation of business entities and the purchase, sale and restructuring of ongoing business concerns and represents banks and other lenders in real estate lending and asset based financing. Ms. Woodrum regularly negotiates reviews and drafts contracts for business clients and provides general corporate representation. As a member of the Health Care practice group, Ms. Woodrum provides regulatory and transactional representation of healthcare clients in connection with mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, professional service agreements, physician employment matters, and general healthcare and business transactions. Her experience includes advising clients on a broad range of regulatory issues, including the federal Stark law and Anti-Kickback statute, Medicare/Medicaid billing and reimbursement and third party payor issues, the South Carolina Provider Self Referral Act, the Health Care Quality Improvement Act, the HIPAA security and privacy rules, and certificates of need and other permitting and licensure rules pertaining to healthcare facilities. Ms. Woodrum completed the American Health Lawyers Association Peer Review Officer Training Program in 2008. She prepared and presented the 2006 South Carolina Business Law Update at the Corporate, Banking & Securities Law Section Program of the 2007 South Carolina Bar Convention. Ms. Woodrum presented on the topic of fractional ownership interests in tenants in common property in 2007, at a CLE sponsored by the Charleston School of Law and Center for Heirs Property, and in 2006 at a CLE sponsored by the Charleston Bar Association. In 2006, she gave a presentation on identity theft to the Charleston Rotary Club Women’s Auxiliary. Prior to joining Buist Moore Smythe McGee P.A. as an associate, Ms. Woodrum held clinical and management positions in the field of community mental health.
